You know that terrified feeling you get when you walk into a store and there are holiday decorations from Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas displayed all at once? Retailers love to push the season to start as soon as possible, but all it does is give us a new reason to freak out.
I like to fight back by taking control. Organizing your holiday linens, decor and wrapping materials before the season starts for real is a great way to harness the anxiety. A preseason purge is just the thing -- it won't take too long because no matter how much you have, it's really only a fraction of what you own -- to calm your nerves.
Then you'll have plenty of time to make your list and check it twice. Maybe even three times.
LT's Organizing Tool of the Week is the 15-gallon Halloween tote by the Container Store. $12.99 for each stackable, sturdy storage box. We really love that they're clear so you can see exactly what's in there and they also come in Christmas colors for easy ID in your garage or attic. At http://www.containerstore.com/
Any lucky reader who e-mails linearthoughts@comcast.net will be registered to win the products we feature. A drawing will be held once a month and winners will be notified by e-mail. First drawing is going to be held Thursday, October 30 -- so get your entries in soon.
Good luck!
LT
